Get a #1 ranking on Google and 40 other search engines
Sound familiar? If not, then you may not have heard of the latest SEO marketing promotion making the rounds of the webmaster forums.
What is it?
The website, is 1on40.com. They guarantee to get you to the top of every major search engine in use today. On top of that, they will do all this for free! The catch, you have to give them your e-mail address, create a user account, and periodically visit their website as a registered user.
Now, you may be thinking anyone who guarantees top results is running a scam. Well, I’m here to tell you, who knows? After visiting scam.com, the posters there can’t seem to come to a conclusion (without jumping to conclusions). However, you will notice some concerns about and accusations toward this operation.
Who are these guys?
It appears there is some history to 1on40.com. They didn’t just appear overnight but may be related to a project called More Than Traffic (MTT) and monopolizer.com. In addition, the domain is located in London, UK. To get a little more background, read the scam.com link above to get some idea of how they conduct business.
Should I try it?
As far as using the service, I can’t recommend it one way or another. The biggest red flag is they are making a GUARANTEE of results. This is expressly forbidden by Google’s TOS. But, if they are successful, you can’t argue with results.
In my case, I tried their service using an established domain, without much Google presence. Next, I picked some competitive keywords (tiny myspace layouts, free myspace backgrounds). This way, if it is a scam, it won’t make any difference. If not, then great!
I wouldn’t suggest trying this with any of your websites currently making money. Nor, would I use this service using any of your regular email accounts. Instead, use it with a throw-away email account and an unestablished domain name.
There is one more thing.
As a part of their pitch, they give themselves up to 120 days to produce results. So, you have a long wait before you can absolutely verify the validity of their claims.
Be careful.
