Lets talk firefox extensions and what they can do for you

The greatest part of Firefox is the extensions. There are so many extensions to help you in your every day work. The following is a list that I have installed and most are used on a daily basis.

BugMeNot - BugMeNot is an extension that has a database of usernames and passwords for free sites such as nytimes.com. So say a friend sends you a link to an article on nytimes.com and you want to view it, but you don’t want to sign up for the free account just to view the article. With this you just right click in the username box and it pulls a username from the database. This only works on free sites.

Colorzilla - Colorzilla is an extension that allows you to click on anywhere on a page and it captures the color that you clicked on. It even gives you the html code for the color. This is handy if you see a color on a web page and want to use it in a design of your own. It even grabs colors from photos and what not.

FasterFox - Fasterfox is a network tweak for firefox that speeds up your browsing experience. It does such things as prefetching links, tweaking networks connections, page load timers and helps in pop up blocking too.

Firebug - Firebug allows you to find webpage items in the code. So say you want to know how a site did some cool table setup, you can run this and hover over the part on the page and it will highlight the relevant code in the html.

iMacros - iMacros is a macro extension for firefox. It allows you to automate repetitive actions in firefox. You can record yourself doing actions and play it back and even set how many times you want it to repeat the action.

MeasureIt - MeasureIt is one of my favorite extensions because it allows you to measure the size of anything on a web page. It works like a virtual ruler, allowing you to measure the size of pictures, tables or even the distance between tables or images.

PDF Download - PDF Download relieves the pain experienced when encountering PDF files on the Web. Whenever you click on a PDF file, PDF Download lets you know before trying to open it, and then offers you choices such as downloading, opening, or converting it straight to HTML.

PicLens - This is a cool application. Its kind of hard to explain really what you can do with it, you just need to check it out yourself. It can pull photos into a virtual wall and even find more photos that are relevant to the source.

Tab Scope - Similiar to the taskbar preview in Vista, this is very helpful when you have a slew of tabs open. Rather than clicking on each tab to see what is on it, you can hover over the tab itself and this shows a preview of what on that tab.

Web Developer - Probably the most important and useful of all the extensions I have listed here. This is an absolute MUST for anyone who designs. This allows you to view all aspects of web pages such as highlighting tables, disabling css, disabling cookies, resizing the browser to 800×600 and a slew of other options.
