The usefulness of Ebooks
After reading quite a few Ebooks on Adsense, SEO, making money on the web, affiliate marketing, ecommerce, and link building, it seems most of them are a waste of money.
Learning from Ebooks.
I may be dating myself, but the old Warner Bros. cartoons would show a cartoon character reading a book on something and instantly becoming an expert in it (or at least competent). The assumption is the character knew nothing before but gained all their knowledge from reading.
With that in mind, most Ebooks appear to be meant for the complete novice. This is someone with no experience building websites, using affiliate or ad programs, nor know how search engines work. With that in mind, I suppose these Ebooks serve a purpose. If you read a blog on being a webmaster (like this one), you probably aren’t going to get very much from the typical Ebook.
Don’t get me wrong. You can’t know everything and this includes the experienced, succesful professional. There is going to be 1 or 2 nuggets of useful information in a decent Ebook. But, in my opinion, unless you are a novice avoid them.
Bad Ebooks.
Believe it or not, some Ebooks are just advertising vehicles. If you are one of the unfortunate who has purchased one of these Ebooks, you will find it is all leading to further sales pitches to buy more products.
To me, if I just paid for the Ebook, having the information conclude with more sales pitches does nothing for building credibility (or my desire to buy anything more). It’s a good hustle, if it works. But, it’s a tactic that makes me say the entire Ebook is a waste of money.
Should you buy it?
If you read webmaster blogs, visit webmaster forums, have at least one website, or have used an affiliate or ad network, 99% of Ebooks are a waste of money (just guessing from the limited sample I have read). You can certainly learn how to make money from the web without having to pay someone to tell you how.
So, if you are motivated enough to run a website, you are motivated enough to get the information to succeed without buying an Ebook.
