Title Tag Basics

The title tag has often been used to spam search engines, therefore you need to be careful that you don’t just list all of your top keywords in row. It should be in an organized fashion like the search engines want. They have an actual method for this which we will show you later on. This method tells the search engine what your business name is and what your top keywords are. Then it tells the search engines that this is why you believe you should rank for this term.

The title tag itself is not that complex to arrange, but knowing when to say enough is enough can always be difficult. A lot of people want to try and cram as many keywords in the title as possible on their homepage. But what they don’t understand is that you can easily use several sub pages to obtain great rankings for all your keywords without raising any flags to the search engines for duplicate content and/or a spamming site.
Without further ado let’s learn how to assemble our title tag so the search engines will be happy. Let’s get started right now!

1. The first rule of thumb when creating your title tag is to ensure that you list the company name/business name before listing key words which Google has stated clearly on their website needs to be done.

2. The second rule of thumb that I would like to talk about is the keywords, the keywords are what is going to tell the search engines how to rank your site. So it’s important that these be assembled correctly. Below is an example of a correct title tag and below that is the incorrect version that you should avoid.

As you can see from the two examples provided the first one looks more professional to the human eye, when creating a title tag you should take this into consideration. Think of the search engines like human beings, they read and write just like a human would or as close to us as possible. Therefore we can only assume that in order to make the search engines happy we first need to ensure that our customers are happy with what they read.

The title tag should catch the attention of your customers and search engines as if it was a sales letter title. The title is simply outlining what you’re selling, as you can see in my example I first declared the business name, then I tell the search engines that my terms are making money online and sales marketing.
