Blue Host (BlueHost sp?) Reviews - Website hosting
In my activities as webmaster, there have been a lot of web hosts I have used. This covers a period of years (dating to the mid-90s). For me, cost is important and of course, the all important 1 800 number (or its equivalent). Using these as base requirements (cost and technical support), I will proceed to rate Blue Host.
Well, their $6.95 package is not the cheapest, especially for PHP service. I currently have a funny image website with them, which uses a DB. Their uptime has been good and there really has been no outage in the 3 years I’ve been using them. In all that time, there has been maybe 2 times where it was necessary to call them.
They have a clearly visible toll free number to call. The tech support is good enough, so the technical aspect is actually quite good. The price is on the high side, but I suppose it’s not going to make any difference if you make money with your website. You just want it available or speak with someone to make it available.
What negates price is they allow you to point multiple domains to the same hosting package. If you run a lot of websites, or test out different domains for traffic, this is a downright HEAVEN-SENT feature. It completely negates the high price because you now can put multiple money-making websites on the same domain. This is an invaluable feature!
There are two gripes with Blue Host. First, the homepage is not very useful for finding out what packages they offer. To me, it’s very confusing. Compared to other hosting sites, it leaves a lot to be desired.
Second, their billing is downright devious. They get high marks for hosting and accessibility but I DESPISE their billing department. They try to bill your credit card before the service agreement has terminated (2 weeks prior). They give you no prior warning they are doing this and only let you know when they can’t get the money. For those of you with banks who love charging excessive fees, you are going to DESPISE this tactic.
Overall, I recommend Blue Host. They have been a good host for me for 3 years running. I have thought about changing due to price, but the good service and multiple domain feature stops me. When I need hosting for a substantial website, they are high on my list. They have proven themselves. Just watch for their billing practices.
