How to make money with blogs (blogging)

Most of the required items for this are free EXCEPT the hosting part. Although there’s some free hosts, your content doesn’t stay yours since the free host (like blogger, blogsome, blogcities, wordpress.com, etc) might removie it. So, it’s probably wise  to blow $100 or so on some cheap hosting. Plus, using wordpress or a custom install gives you the ability to fully customize your content.

Ingredients:

1) Your own domain name.

2) Free blog software. The most common and powerful one is Wordpress. This shit is great since i) its 100% free and ii) many, all over the worl,d create plugins/themes and widgets and all sorts of plugins for it and iii) there’s tons of people using it and sharing questions and answers covering problems or bugs.

Download links for free blog software:
Wordpress http://wordpress.org/latest.zip
Serendipity (this is great cuz it allows for easy image upload/ripping and resizing and has some decent plugins) http://www.s9y.org/12.html

3) Hosting. There’s tons of cheap hosting you can get. If you’re running under 5 blogs, you can use a VIRTUAL HOSTING PACKAGE. Virtual hosting means your site is sharing a server with other people’s sites. Think of it as a website apartment. Once you get a lot of traffic, it’s time to get a DEDICATED SERVER. Think of that as your website house and lot.

Godaddy.com has a $3.99 per month host
Get the list here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s…ng&btnG=Search

4) Content. You can get this anywhere (even this blog) or by going to digg.com or fark.com and get funny video links people post there. They don’t mind since you are driving traffic to them.

5) Free blog themes: You want your site to look lively and interesting. Standard blog themes suck, so try to change things with themes. Here’s a list of free blog theme sites: (NOTE: Make sure to get themes that match your blog software’s version)

Instructions:

Get the domain, get hosting. Email your host to install your domains on your host and to install Wordpress or Serendipity and your blog theme and email you the login url and login/password.

Go to your video content sources and get links and post a little funny comment and post.

Plugins: install or activate plugins (Serendipity is great because all installs come with a menu where you can pick and choose popular plugins. In WP you have to hunt that shit down, load to your server, then install from WP–Serendipity lets you do all this shit with a few clicks).

My recommended plugin is Sociable–it helps your users share better http://push.cx/sociable

There’s tons of other plugins for Adsense, Google Sitemap, etc etc

HINT: Change the date stamp on your post so your software posts when you’re not around. LIke post all your shit on Monday but set up the time stamp to post monday, tuesday, wednesday etc. for each of your posts.
