A primer on earning 100+ dollars a day as an affiliate
Here are the basics to an effective affiliate marketing strategy.
First, you need to select the BEST advertiser. High dollar items attract affiliates most, but they aren’t always the best. Typically, high dollar items have much higher competition and therefore result in poor conversions if you even manage to find the traffic. Think of these items like the high paying keywords in adsense.
Think of affiliate marketing the same way you think of search engine optimization. In SEO, we have learned going for long tail keywords often gets higher rankings and more overall traffic. Competition is less fierce for these keywords.
Affiliate programs are the same. Browse the advertiser list. For each product, ask yourself, “would someone buy this online?” It seems simple, but it’s one of the first mistakes people make. They don’t select products which sell well online.
Next, you need to get traffic to the affiliate. There are many ways to use. First and most common are banner ads and affiliate links on an already existing domain. Usually, the conversion rates are low and ends with the webmaster leaving affiliate programs completely.
Next, there are landing pages. These pages are designed specifically for the product you are trying to sell. They lead you down the page and make you want to click the link and buy the product at the end. Typically, these have much higher conversion rates. Yet, the question often is, “How do I get traffic to these pages?”
There are a couple answers. Most use PPC or pay per click campaigns. For many cases, this works very well. But, it depends on the product, or all you do is lose money. It’s a strategy with risk.
The second method is to build cloaked domains. This requires throw away domains to drive traffic to the landing pages. Or, send the traffic straight to the affiliate while showing lots of SEO-friendly content to the search engines. Unlike PPC, this is cheap, plus it offers the flexibility to redirect traffic anywhere and anytime.
Most affiliate programs (or, sponsor) have no problem driving traffic straight to their sales or landing pages. If they have specific rules against it, just redirect the traffic to your own landing page, and then to the sponsors’ web page.
